Director Madhur Bhandarkar released the image via Twitter. The poster features Kareena Kapoor dressed in a sequinned tank top and shorts, reclining on a bed surrounded by magazines, photos of herself and an empty wine glass.
The Fashion director tweeted: "Presenting the 1st poster of Heroine to all my well-wishers. Hope you like it."
It was recently reported that shots of Kapoor smoking in the trailer of the film have been censored following a decision by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to blur all images of smoking from film trailers.
J P Singh, CBFC's regional officer in Mumbai, told the Hindustan Times: "We've taken a decision some time back to show no smoking in trailers. This is because in a trailer, there can be no disclaimer about smoking.
"In the full-length feature film, there has to be a disclaimer about smoking at the beginning and after the interval. Even then the smoking sequences are blurred."
A sex scene in the film is also said to have been cut.
