0 Actress Jolie donates $100,000 to Syrian refugees

GENEVA: Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has donated $100,000 to aid Syrian refugees, the United Nations refugee agency said on Wednesday.

The Oscar-winning actress is a special envoy of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and made the donation on World Refugee Day.

In a statement marking the occasion Jolie said the solutions to the world's growing number of displaced people were political as well as humanitarian.

"The international community should rededicate itself to preventing conflict, addressing it when it erupts, and solving it more quickly," she said.

"For that is the only way to create durable solutions for the refugees whose strength inspires us on this World Refugee Day."

Tens of thousands of Syrians have fled their country amid a bloody crackdown on dissent by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime, with most going to Turkey and Lebanon.

Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the agency since 2001, was promoted to special envoy earlier this year. (AFP)

0 Angelina Jolie grateful for Sarajevo citizenship

Actress Angelina Jolie has thanked the people of Bosnia for making her an honorary citizen of Sarajevo.

The actress-turned-director stepped behind the camera last year for "In the Land of Blood and Honey", a story about a romance between a Serbian soldier and a Bosnian woman.

Her efforts were praised by government officials at the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton Parliament for drawing attention to the area, and they decided to award the 36-year-old with a special citizenship prize, reports contactmusic.com.

A ceremony was held May 3 at Sarajevo's National Theatre, where a pre-recorded video message from Jolie was played.

In the clip, she said: "I am deeply grateful to the citizens of Sarajevo and the Sarajevo Canton assembly for bestowing upon me this incredible honour of citizenship. I am so proud to now be a part of such an extraordinary part of the world and fellow citizen to the people I deeply love and admire."

"I wish I could be there with all of you tonight, and I look forward to visiting in July when I can properly accept and personally express my gratitude."

0 Angelina Jolie reaches out to refugees in Ecuador

QUITO: Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has visited with displaced Colombians forced to seek refuge across the border in Ecuador, as a special envoy of High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres, the UNHCR announced Sunday.

It was the first such working visit for the screen star since Guterres named her to the post this month. She has however been a UN goodwill ambassador since 2001, and as such made 40 visits around the world in the past decade.

The new post will see the Oscar-winning actress perform a more diplomatic role.

"She is expected to focus on large-scale crises resulting in the mass displacement of people, to undertake advocacy and represent UNHCR and Mr Guterres at the diplomatic level, engaging with relevant interlocutors on global displacement issues," UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards said last week.

Ecuador is the Latin American nation which has the largest number of refugees - including some 56,000 from neighboring Colombia. Jolie visited with refugees in Sucumbios province on Saturday, the UN said. (AFP)

0 Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie may star in new Ridley Scott film

HOLLYWOOD: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are close to signing on to star in a movie together, according to reports.

Deadline reported that director Ridley Scott is close to getting the power couple for his film "The Counselor," which will begin production in June.

The Cormac McCarthy-penned thriller would be the couple's first time as costars since "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" in 2005.

Michael Fassbender is already slated to star in the film about a lawyer who attempts to test the world of drug-dealing without getting in too deep.

Also, coming off her knock out Golden Globes look, it would have been silly to try and top that. I love the iridescent shine of this black jersey fabric and the beautiful draping in the top and skirt.

When you are Angelina, you can't just wear any ol' Couture Frock off the Runway, huney! No! you have Donatella and her team create a Custom Couture creation just for you!

This Creme with Red Accent Silk Crepe Back Satin Gown fit her to perfection. Trust me, to create darts and tailor Silk Satin that masterfully is no easy feat! And I absolutely LOVE that 1940's draping.

I know this one will be another look that people will Love or Hate, but I am firmly in the LOVE camp. She can often play it safe or subdued on the Red Carpet, but with this look I think she really "brought it" to the Globes!

Everything about her look was beautifully thought out including this soft, modern chignon.

And, of course, the trend of the night...a custom DTM (dyed to match) Satin Clutch! Love that they did it to match the Red detailing of the collar.

The 23rd Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala occurred tonight, Saturday January 7th, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, in Palm Springs, California, naturally. The Awards Gala brought out lots of A-List Hollywood stars (it was sponsored by Cartier and I'm sure they got some nice Goodie Bags, a nice free stay in Palm Springs and lots, lots more...as incentives to show up!).

Blouson and Cane: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie showed up with her handsome husband, Brad Pitt. The 48-year-old actor was being honored at the ceremony with the Desert Palm Achievement Award for his work in both Moneyball and The Tree of Life. His pal and Moneyball co-star, Jonah Hill presented him with the award. Brad was walking with a cane and revealed to reporters that he injured himself when he wiped out on a ski slope while holding one of his twins. Miss Angelina, in case you were wondering wore a beige/putty fan-pleated blouson (she LOVES that silhouette!!) jumpsuit from Lebanese-born and Paris-and-Beirut based fashion designer Elie Saab. Pitt wore a Versace suit...and that cane.

George Clooney and Stacy Keibler: Yes, another A-List Hollywood Couple showed up to the 23rd Annual Palm Springs Film Festival Awards Gala--with his semi-new girlfriend! The 50-year-old actor received the Chairman’s Award for his work in both The Descendants and The Ides of March.

His statuesque (and gorgeous) girlfriend, actress, model and pro-Wrestler(!) Stacy Keibler, wore a black Alexander McQueen sleeveless and plunging-neck dress with shoulder-padded detail. Clooney's tuxedo suit was by Versace--just like Brad Pitt's (did the Versace PR team sponsor these two boys??)

Hot in Black: Actress Charlize Theron wore a HOT, HOT, HOT LBD--Little Black Dress--in the form of this Lanvin Spring 2012 by Alber Elbaz. Interestingly enough it was very close in its shoulder emphasizing design, as Stacy Keibler's (I'm sure Charlize and Stacy were "bumpin" shoulders!). PS: It's ALL about these STRONG SHOULDER dresses ladies!!! The black crepe sheath dress also featured an original cut-out as seen above. Call it, the New SLIT! LOVE. Also: notice her heels: The Stacked PUMP is about to be GONE. It's all about this delicate late 70's Disco Strappy heel...

Diva in Black: Black was a popular color at this 23rd Annual Palm Springs Film Festival Awards Gala. Actress Glenn Glose wore a black gown with a sweetheart neckline, fitted bust, godet panels at the skirt and elbow-length tight-fitting sleeves. I think she looks elegant and refined. Although I am not a huge fan of the sheer panels. Often these slightly sheer dresses look very different "in person" as opposed to seen in photos because the flash from the photographers cameras can be extremely harsh. I always advice everyone to take a flash photograph BEFORE you leave the house! You'll be surprised what the camera can reveal! We don't want any VPL (visible panty lines)!!

Michelle Williams: The 31-year-old actress received the Desert Palm Achievement Award for her work in the film My Week With Marilyn, which was presented by her co-star Kenneth Branagh. She wore an above-the-knee muted gold satin and sequined cocktail dress from Prada. Again, this dress, also continued the "Shoulder Emphasis" silhouette with its impeccably beaded shoulder-covering torso detail. Oh, and what a surprise: no Super Stacked Heel...instead, a delicate slightly stacked gold strappy shoe. Good job Michelle.

My TV Guide "The Fashion Team" and "Award Show Fashion Wrap" partner-in-crime , stylist Jen Rade, told me when the Golden Globes were announced that for Angelina--whom she styles--she gets requests left and right to dress Angelina: Quel Suprise!--but she always LOVES the House of Versace because there's NEVER a question that it will be done and done right! Here Angelina wears a 1940s-inspired emerald green all-over-sequin gown with padded shoulders, bateau neckline with a scoop back and lightly blouson detail. STUNNING. Love it. Her hair and make-up look amazing as well.

I'm so excited that TONIGHT on The Style Network, the new Season of "Style Star" will debut--and yours truly has been called in to be one of the panel of commentating experts--for the ENTIRE SEASON!!! The show airs EVERY Saturday night and of course repeats throughout the week.

In case you might be out of the "Style Star" loop--the show highlights Famous A-List celebs and what makes them STYLE STARS! Every week style and celeb experts including America's Next Top Model Judge, Photographer Nigel Barker, former Rachel Zoe assistant, stylist Taylor Jacobson and my good friend, Marcellas Reynolds--will go through and "enlighten" the viewer on what makes Charlize Theron or Penelope Cruz or Kim Kardashian ROCK...in terms of style.
